Most auto transport companies will give you a free quote online or over the phone.

Whether you're a buyer or seller, you may need to transport your vehicle quite a distance. Most auto transporters and shippers offer open or enclosed transport trucks (depending on the value of your vehicle). Be sure you find an insured and bonded vehicle shipping company with door-to-door or terminal to terminal car transport and vehicle shipping services. Below are tips to help you prepare for contacting transport services for your vehicle.

Auto shipping Advice

The first step in transporting your vehicle is to obtain a quote. In order to do this, the transport company will require the following information:
  • The origination and destination of transport
  • Approximate departure date
  • Type of vehicle
  • Type of car transport service desired (e.g., door-to-door car transport or terminal-to-terminal)
  • Do you want enclosed transport or open (enclosed will be more expensive, but if you're transporting a valuable vehicle such as a classic car or exotic sports car, it may be well worth the added expense of using an enclosed transport).
  • Larger vehicles (i.e. SUVs) may cost more due to the extra space they take on the transport truck.
Obtain quotes from at least three auto transport companies and make sure you determine the total cost. Be aware of any extra fees they may charge.

The next step is to make sure the necessary route for pickup or delivery is accessible by the carrier. Transport trucks are large and may not be able to drive down certain streets due to narrow roads, city or county regulations or lack of turn around areas. This may cause problems for pickup and/or delivery. If so, pick another site such as a large parking lot, a shopping center, etc...

Next, prepare your vehicle for auto shipping.
  • Wash the vehicle so you can make an accurate inspection of any damage before shipping
  • Make sure you have removed all personal items from the vehicle.
  • If the vehicle has an alarm, make sure to de-activate it so it doesn't activate during transport
  • Most auto transport companies will require that you have no more than 1/4 tank of gas.
  • Verify that all items in/on the car are secure (convertible tops, battery, antenna, etc...)

We wish you the best of luck in transporting your vehicle!
