Dodging the Snowball
|
Are you thinking about heading south for the winter? Join the crowd! If you have never done this before you have a lot to think about. The first time we did this, we made the decision in October and were on the road by November 2nd. Our snap decision was based on our daughter's deployment to Iraq and we wanted to see her off from Texas. We did not have a lot of time to think through the process but we did have a lot of experience being away from home for long stretches. Here are some things to think about.
House
If you own a home you must decide how to handle the house while you are gone. You may want to find a house sitter. At the very least, you probably want someone to have the keys so your plants get watered and the house is checked regularly. Plan to spend time with this person to review all the quirks that every house has. Your property will probably need either plowing or mowing. This may be the same person who checks the house or someone else. Be sure this person has phone numbers to contact you for an emergency.

Choosing a Home Base State
|
If you are serious about becoming a full time RVer, you have a lot of decisions to make. One of the important decisions is your home state. You must have a mailing address which is your legal residence. This is necessary for your driver's license, and to register your vehicle. Both of these things are important if you want to go anywhere in your RV. Does it matter which state you choose? What impact will it have?
