Weather Worries on the Road
If you’ve spent most of your life in one region of the country you are certainly familiar with the weather dangers that affect your area. But once you jump into your motor home and begin exploring other parts of the country you have something to learn.
We happened to be in central Texas while it rained for an entire week. The ground was saturated, the rivers overflowed and ducks were much happier than people. Flooding is a common problem in this area. Texas has many dams designed to manage flooding. When the floodgates are closed the water is held until the areas below the dam can handle more water. Areas in the flood plains above the dam may be under water during this time.

Inverters - Do I need one? Should I want one?
An inverter is a piece of electronic equipment that converts your DC battery power into AC power. If you always stay in a campground with your RV plugged into shore power, an inverter is not necessary. Those who want or need to dry camp typically use the 12-volt system in the RV for lights, the heater fan and a 12-volt television. If you need to plug other types of equipment into the wall outlet while the RV is not attached to shore power, consider an inverter. This can be helpful for medical equipment, computers and kitchen appliances. You need to do some calculations to determine your battery capacity (where the power comes from) and the output power needs of the equipment to buy the right system for your lifestyle.

RVing with Children
Camping is a wonderful childhood experience. Many of us who own RVs started camping as children. There are some things to consider when you plan a trip that is more than the typical one or two week vacation if you are including children. It may be helpful to know that you are not the only one out there with children in your RV. Read about a full time family and get some words of encouragement along with some sound advice. Although the location may change fairly frequently, the RV can be a home away from home by providing familiar surroundings.
