High-performance motorcycle maker Ducati has long been famous for its well-designed, sexy bikes. Its latest line of concept models, styled after some of its classic designs from the Seventies, was shown recently for the first time at the Tokyo Auto Show. But are they what the customer is looking for? Says Michael Lock, CEO of Ducati North America: “Ducati is very much interested in hearing what people think before we bring this kind of machines to market."

One year after the release of the CBR600RR--a motorcycle that raised eyebrows for being so radical, so edgy and so focused--Big Red faces 2004 with another barrage of new bikes. The CBR1000RR aims to do what the CBR954RR could not--dethrone Suzuki's GSX-R1000--while the tasty-looking, middleweight standard 599--Europe's popular Hornet 600--marks Honda's entry into direct competition with the Suzuki SV650 and Yamaha's brand-new FZ6. Also making '04 public appearances are the attractive and highly affordable Shadow Aero cruiser, a pair of track-only 50s and some civic duty in the form of a police-edition ST1100.

Fifty-seven Hells Angels members were arrested on Wednesday as police and federal agents raided homes and motorcycle gang clubhouses across the western United States, seizing guns, explosives and drugs. Authorities the Hells Angels were believed to be involved in a variety of criminal activities, including the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine, firearms trafficking, extortion and motorcycle theft.
