Swedish Concept: Sexy Or Sexist?
According to Lena Ecklund, deputy manager for one of Volvo's design teams, women "...are the most demanding customers. We found that the demands of women are higher than those of men, even on performance." This Popular Science interview discusses the advent of Volvo's new YCC - a concept car fully targeted for providing a lot of muscle, sleek design and comforting options purely for women.

More Current For Hi-Po Sixties' Beasts
Muscle cars' popularity never wanes. But as the sixties become more distant, the high-horsepower cars produced in that era continue to deteriorate. Hot rodders are forever updating and upgrading mechanical components, but they shouldn't overlook the electrical system. In fact, totally rewiring a muscle car with an aftermarket kit can improve both performance and safety: Old, brittle wires can crack or fray and produce sparks, which can ignite an electrical fire. Read more and get insight such as what causes electrical components such as headlights to perform best.

Trailblazer By Design
Ed Welburn began designing cars when he was 2. 51 years later he is the guy who gave life to the Chevy SSR hot-rod pickup and the Cadillac Escaladeis - living his fantasy as the Chief Designer for the world's largest automaker. He is also the first African-American to run the design studio of any major automaker. He is not pompous or overt about his accomplishments. In fact, he is just the opposite as those that know him and work with him describe him as very soft-spoken. Can the soft-spoken stylist get GM in gear again?

Hybrid Mileage Comes Up Short
Federal law requires that auto manufacturers use only EPA estimates when promoting their vehicles' fuel economy. This is developing into a conundrum for manufacturers of the recently hyped hybrid vehicles and consumers because consumer usage and statistics are revealing that hybrid vehicles are not coming close to meeting the EPA estimates for these vehicles. This article provides insight from both the consumers and the manufacturers.

Remembrance Porsche
Some men dream of conquering Mount Everest; others of discovering planets or continents. Stephan Wilkinson's dream was of molybdenum disulfide assembly lubricant. Three years ago Wilkinson bought a clapped-out red Porsche, stripped it down to its lowliest washer, and began rebuilding it in a barn in upstate New York. In a book published this month, The Gold Plated Porsche, he takes us through the restoration process, and while he works, the car becomes his madeleine as he looks back at his formative years as a magazine editor, ambulance driver, marijuana smuggler, merchant seaman and aircraft test pilot.
