Engine Information
Total time on the engine is about 4830 hours. The engine is an IO-360-A1B6. Not an AEIO SN L -21931-51A This model has the counter weighted crankshaft and is designed as an aerobatic engine. The engine was purchased surplus from the British MOD. The engine had been maintained by the MOD for its whole service life. The engine came complete in a dry- sealed crate together with a factory inverted fuel and oil system. This engine was newly serviced prior to being put in storage. These engine were use by the RAF for training pilots in "Bulldogs" The engine was top overhauled in 2000, run in on a magnetometer, pickled and put in dry storage. The MOD installed a new crankshaft at the last major overhaul in 1996. The MOD does there overhauls every 1800 hours. It about 75 hours since the MOD did the top overhaul. The new Hartzel constant speed propeller on the airplane is the same propeller used on the Bulldog military trainer. So the engine propeller combination are approved by Hartzel and the FAA required only 25 hours for flying off the test hours. As for the crankshaft AD in accordance with the notice: This is a quote from the AD. "(g) If Lycoming Engines manufactured new, rebuilt, overhauled, or repaired your engine, or replaced the crankshaft in your engine before March 1, 1997, and you have not had the crankshaft replaced, no further action is required." Since the crankshaft was replace prior to 1997. And has not been touched since, we are in compliance.
